This is a near end-game NPC that is infamous for, as one redditor on the r/p99 subreddit put it, "hitting like a truck." "Tanking" is the common term for, essentially, standing there and absorbing blows from an enemy. These are usually regulated to warrior classes, but other hybrids (like paladins) can also serve the role. Despite the simplicity of my explanation, it plays a crucial role across nearly every RPG or MMORPG since the founding of the concept. Even as far back as text-based dungeon crawlers, the sword-and-board lives as the skeletal structure of any well-prepared party.
